Tissue Paper Wreath

This is one of the most familiar Christmas wreaths for those with toddlers and preschoolers.  It's great all the way up to early grade school where you can focus on patterning along with the craft.  Add a photo of the child to the center to make a great keepsake for mom or grandma!

This version our our paper plate wreath is meant for older children.  We also have a version intended for younger children.

It took Kaitlyn (age 13) a little less than 2 hours to complete this project using a full sized plate. If you don't have that much time it might work well to make this a group project with the children taking turns cutting tissue and gluing it to the plate or you can use a snack sized plate for a smaller (quicker) wreath.
 

Materials:

• paper plate
• glue
• scissors
• 1 to 2 inch squares of tissue paper in Christmas colors

Instructions:

• Cut the tissue paper into 1 to 2 inch squares. 
      
• Cut the center out of the paper plate to leave a round "donut" shape.  This will form the base of the wreath.
    
• Wrap each square of tissue paper over the top of a pencil, dip in glue and stick it to the paper plate.
   
• Continue until you have filled the entire plate with tissue to create your wreath.
    
• We used mostly green tissue paper with the occasional piece of red to make it look like there were holly berries in the wreath.
