April Showers Bring May Flowers

People seemed to really enjoy the March Lion/Lamb activities and I had quite a few requests for a similar section for the saying, "April Showers Bring May Flowers" so here it is!

The April Showers song (sung to the tune of I'm a Little Teapot) is a fun action song to learn at this time of year.  Most of you have likely heard it before, but I thought I'd include it here for those who may not have.

Talk to your children about the rain... older children can go learn about the Water Cycle and do some of the activities.  The Water Cycle includes some printable coloring pages with sunshine and raindrops that even younger kids will really enjoy.  Or pick one of the many Flowers coloring pages available.

Younger children (or large groups) can talk a bit more simply about rain.  On a large sheet of paper or chalk board, have the kids brainstorm about rain.  What are some GOOD things about the rain.  What are some BAD things.  (You might want to provide an answer of your own first so they get the feel for what you're asking of them.)

Some craft activities the kids might enjoy include the Muffin Cup flowers, Spring Bunny Paper Craft and Little Critter Rain Outfit Paper Doll for the younger kids (toddler thru kindergarten) and the Learn about Plants craft/activity for Grade 1+.

Visit the Spring Section for other Flower Crafts to choose from and a few Umbrella crafts as well Bunny Spring Paper Craft and Little Critter Rain Outfit Paper Doll

We have a number of Spring coloring pages and Rain/Umbrella coloring pages

GRAPHING/OBSERVATION

You can do a bit of math/graphing practice by providing the child with the rain/sun template below.  Each day during the month of April, have them color one of the squares on either the rain or the sun side (depending on what the weather is like).

Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
