DLTK's Crafts for Kids
Valentine's Day Cups

Two versions of the same basic craft:

(see below instructions for templates)

Materials:

bulletstyrofoam or paper cup
bullettinfoil
bulletpopsicle stick or straw
bulletpaper
bulletscissors
bulletglue

 

Instructions:

bulletcover cup with tinfoil
bulletpoke a hole in the top of the cup with scissors or a sharpened pencil
bulletcut a heart out of pink paper
bulletcut two leaves out of green paper
bulletdraw a face on the heart
bulletglue or tape the heart to the top of the popsicle stick or straw
bulletpoke the straw/popsicle stick through the cup
bulletglue or tape the leaves onto the popsicle stick

 

Materials:

bulletstyrofoam or paper cup
bullettinfoil
bulletpopsicle stick or straw
bulletpaper
bulletscissors
bulletglue
bulletred paint
bulletoptional:  green tissue paper

 

Instructions:

bulletcover cup with tinfoil
bulletcut a heart out of pink paper
bulletusing red paint, make thumbprints on the heart
bulletglue or tape the heart to the top of the popsicle stick or straw
bulletfill the cup with green tissue paper
bulletput the popsicle stick/straw in the cup full of green tissue paper
bulletOPTIONAL:  Make a second heart flower
or
attach a second heart to the front of the cup with a paper clip
with the message:

Thumbody Loves You!  It's Me(Us)!  Love _____

 

I'm providing templates (because I always try to provide templates), but in this case, I think it's great for the kids to trace and make their own hearts.  You can use a cookie cutter or make a cardboard tracer OR you can teach the children how to fold a piece of paper in half to make a symmetrical heart.

 

Template 1:  2 blank hearts
color       or       B&W

Template 2:  heart with face + leaves
color       or       B&W

Template 3:  2 hearts with "thumbody loves you"
color       or       B&W
