I usually don't think of airplanes having specific models -- each one is just an airplane to me. But actually, different designs of airplanes have been created by various companies. Of course the most common airplane manufacturer is Boeing, who really ushered in the era of commercial travel by plane with their first jet-powered passenger aircraft known as the Boeing 707.

The first Boeing 707 flight was on July 15th, 1954 although technically it wasn't the Boeing 707 we know today but the original prototype called the 367-80 and nicknamed the Dash 80. The Dash 80 first flew from a field just south of Seattle. It wasn't until December 20th, 1957 that the first actual 707 flew. Then, less than a year later on October 26, 1958 the Boeing 707 entered the commercial airline market.

Below are some airplane crafts that are great activities to accompany learning about airplanes, flying, and this special Boeing anniversary!
