Our Easter Chick Handprint Craft invites children from babyhood through age 10 to partake in a simple yet profoundly memorable activity. With just a dash of yellow paint and a sprinkle of imagination, your child's handprint becomes a cute chick, ready to hatch from the page. Ideal for family bonding, this craft not only nurtures creativity but also leaves you with a heartwarming keepsake or a thoughtful gift for grandparents. Let's flap our wings into this artistic journey, where every handprint tells a story of growth and joy.
Materials:
- Easter Chick color template (provided)
- Yellow washable paint
- Paintbrush or sponge
- Plain paper (for practice)
- Picture frame (optional for gifting)
Instructions:
-
Preparation:
- Protect your crafting area with newspapers or a plastic sheet to keep it clean.
- Print out your chosen Easter Chick color template or you can use it as inspiration and design your own!
- Pour some yellow washable paint into a shallow dish for easy hand dipping.
-
Practice Run:
- Consider doing a trial run on plain paper to help the child get comfortable with the process and to ensure proper hand positioning.
-
Creating the Handprint:
- Use a paintbrush or sponge to apply a thin, even layer of yellow washable paint to your child’s hand. Make sure the entire palm and fingers are covered for a complete print.
- Carefully guide your child to stamp their painted hand onto the template, with fingers extended upwards above the chick's feet on the template. This will create the chick's fluffy body and head.
- Press down gently but firmly to ensure a clear print and then lift the hand straight up to avoid smudging.
-
Drying:
- Set the craft aside to dry completely, which might take a few hours depending on the amount of paint and paper type used.
- Add Face:
- Using orange construction paper, paing or a marker, draw on an orange triangle beak
- Using black paint or a marker draw on two circle eyes or glue on a couple of wiggly eyes
- Framing (Optional):
- Once the handprint is dry, you can frame this charming Easter Chick craft. It's a wonderful keepsake or a thoughtful gift, especially for grandparents who cherish handmade treasures from their grandchildren.
Additional Tips:
- For older children around age 10 with larger hands, the standard template may be too small. If this is the case, you can enlarge the template at a print store like Staples to fit the larger handprint size.
- If you fold this in half, it makes a nice Easter card with the handprint chick on the front and Happy Easter on the back.
This Easter Chick Handprint Craft is not only a fun and engaging activity for children of various ages but also a lovely way to create a lasting memory of their growing years. Enjoy this creative journey and the beautiful keepsake it produces!
