Zoo and Aquarium Month - June each year

Zoo and Aquarium Month is celebrated every June and has been a month-long holiday since 1982. We usually think of zoos and aquariums as places to visit cool and exotic animals up close, learn about animals, habitats, and different places around the world, and have a leisurely outings with family, friends, school, etc. In fact, the United States alone sees about 175 million zoo and aquariu visitors each year!
The mission of zoos and aquariums is much more than just providing a recreational and educational experience, but also about conservation. Conservation is the process of caring for precious resources so that they are protected well into the future. In the case of animal conservation, it is important to protect endangered species so that those species do not go extinct. Zoos and aquariums set up lots of conservation and rehabilitation programs and often will partner with other zoos to ensure that the programs are successful.
There are lots of ways to celebrate zoo and aquarium month such as visiting your local zoo and aquarium, learning about habitats and conservation by visiting a local wildlife park, sponsor an animal, and so much more!
