Egg Carton Poppy Crafts
Egg carton poppies are simple to make and are easy to turn into a variety of craft projects!
Depending on the age of the child, an adult will likely need to cut out and shape the egg carton cups. Other than that, the craft can be done quite independently.
Materials:
- cardboard egg carton
- scissors
- red and black paint (I like acrylic paint for this, but tempera works fine too)
- Optional: green construction paper for handprint leaves
- Optional: cardboard ring or paper plate if making a wreath
Instructions:
- Cut apart the egg carton so they are separated into individual cups. This may require adult assistance.
- Shape the cup so that it has three or four petals and the sharp corners are cut off. You can round the petals or leave them fairly square, depending on your preference. This may require adult assistance.
Paint the cups red on the inside and outside. Let dry.- Paint a black center into each cup. Alternatively, you can scrunch up some black tissue paper or use a black pom pom to create the centers. Let dry
Craft Option 1: Make a green handprint and use it as a leaf. Glue a egg carton poppy to the palm of the handprint leaf.
Craft Option 2: Paint a cardboard ring or paper plate green and add some egg carton poppies for a very pretty wreath decoration. You can cut the center of the paper plate out or you can leave it as space to write a message like "Lest We Forget"
I Made This Little Poppy poem
I made this little poppy,
As red as red can be
To show that I remember
Those who fought to keep us free!
Craft Option 3: add some green handprint leaves to the wreath ring to make a handprint poppy wreath. If making this option, just add a few poppies so you can see the handprints!
Craft Option 4: make a cardboard cross, paint it white and glue a few egg carton poppies to the bottom.
- You can glue the cross to a bit of a cardboard mound (half circle shape cut from card stock or half a paper plate painted green) so you have more room for poppies!
