Teddy Bear's Picnic Day - July 10th

Teddy Bear Picnic Day is an unofficial but adorable holiday that is celebrated mainly in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Each year on July 10th, families and children pack their picnic baskets and head out to a park, the woods, the beach, or other beautiful outdoor locations with their teddy bears in hand!
The holiday is named after a song from the early 20th century that was originally written as a simple melody by Bratton in 1907. In 1932, the BBC Radio recorded a vocal version with Henry Hall singing the adorable lyrics. It is an incredibly popular children's song that continues to be sung over a century later!
Of course it is quite funny to think of teddy bears having a picnic, but these beloved toys often accompany children all over the place! I remember bringing a panda teddy bear with me on quite a few roadtrips when I was growing up. Teddy bears seem like quite a historic toy for children, but actually plush toys in the shape of bears were not especially unique to other stuffed toys until the early 20th century when Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip. The story grew and became popular, so much that a major toy company ordered a large supply of stuffed bears and named them the "Teddy" Bear. The toys became increasingly popular and the rest is history!
Of course, the best way to celebrate Teddy Bear Picnic Day is to grab your beloved Teddy Bear(s), take to the outdoors, spread out a blanket, and eat some tasty and refreshing food. We've included some picnic-worthy recipes, picnic related crafts, and teddy-bear activities that can help children celebrate this fun holiday!
