Colour Changing Ice Cream Paper Plate Craft
Contributed by Kaitlyn Guenther

The only thing better than making an ice-cream-themed craft is eating ice cream but since we can't always be spooning delicious ice cream into our mouths at least we can do some crafting! This ice cream craft is great to celebrate summer and it is especially neat because it changes colour -- or in this case, flavour! You can let your creativity shine with how you decorate the top plate and also with all of the different colours you use on the bottom plate. Once you are done with the craft you can turn the bottom plate around and watch the your ice cream cone change flavour! You can even have the whole family decorate a section of the bottom plate with their favourite ice cream flavour and create a family craft. Or you can put down your top four favourite flavours and use this craft to help you decide which ice cream flavour to buy the next time you're at the ice cream shop!
Materials:
- a variety of colourful paints and paintbrushes (use your imagination and your favourite ice cream flavours to decide your colour chocies).
- two paper plates,
- brass paper fastener,
- scissors,
- paper,
- printer,
Instructions:
Paint the bottom of the paper plates.
- One plate will have the ice cream cone, and you can decorate the background however you like (I chose to paint it like a summer's day sky!).
- The other plate will have the different ice cream flavours, so feel free to get creative (I chose to paint mine like neapolitan ice cream!).
Cut out the ice cream top on the template and trace the piece onto the paperplate.
- IMPORTANT: The ice cream can't be in the very center of the paper plate, otherwise the two plates won't be able to be attached with the brass fastener when you cut out the ice cream part.
Paint the ice cream cone onto the paper plate.
- You can use the cone from the template to trace the shape if you want.
Paint the ice cream cone onto the paper plate.
- You can use the cone from the template to help trace the shape.
Layer the paper plate so that the ice cream cone paper plate is on top of the colourful paper plate (with the bottoms up) so that you can see colours through the cut out ice cream portion.
- Connect the two paper plates by sticking a brass paper fastener through the center and folding the two ends over.
Now you can spin the bottom paper plate and as you spin it the flavour of your ice cream will change!
